History

Russian Society of Colorectal Surgeons was founded in 2011 as the Interregional Public Organization "Society of Coloproctologists and Gastroenterologists," and later in 2013, it acquired its modern status and name. This organization was founded as the initiative of colorectal surgeons, oncologists, surgeons, and other specialists involved in the treatment of various diseases of the colon and rectum. One of the key roles of the Russian Society of Colorectal Surgeons is conducting educational events for specialists in various clinical medical fields.

The annual conference of the Russian Society of Colorectal Surgeons - "Russian School of Colorectal Surgery," is a unique educational event that gathers a large number of practicing physicians from all regions of Russia each year. During the conferences, participants have the opportunity to discover state-of-the-art science from the best speakers of leading international centers.

The history of the Russian School of Colorectal Surgery starts in 2009 when the founder of the total mesorectal excision technique, Bill Heald (United Kingdom), was invited to Russia for the first time, demonstrating the live technique of this operation in our country. After that, at subsequent international conferences of the "Russian School of Colorectal Surgery," participants have the opportunity to directly learn from the best global experts and implement it into their practice.

The founder of the first international conference of the "Russian School of Colorectal Surgery" were Professor P.V. Tsarkov and his team, working at the Russian Scientific Center of Surgery named after B.V. Petrovsky. From year to year, the number of participants and the number of foreign and Russian lecturers increased. By 2011, the conference received international status. Numerous participants of the Russian School of Colorectal Surgery proposed the establishment of the society that would unite all specialists interested in personal development and striving to improve the quality of management for patients with diseases of the colon and rectum. This led to the founding of the Society of Coloproctology and Gastroenterology which was later renamed to the Russian Society of Colorectal Surgeons.
